2018: Canada’s response to former U.S. President Donald Trump’s tariffs was a mix of firm retaliation, diplomatic negotiation, and legal action. Rember when Trump imposed tariffs on Canadian steel and aluminum (25% and 10% respectively) in 2018 under Section 232 of the U.S. Trade Expansion Act, claiming national security concerns, Canada viewed it as an unjustified and hostile economic attack.
